Die Veröffentlichung zweier Teile der in Frankreich sehr erfolgreichen Chinese Man Mixtape Reihe “Groove Sessions”, immerhin über 20.000 mal verkauft, liegt noch gar nicht lange zurück, da veröffentlicht das Turntablism Kollektiv schon sein nächstes Album. Die Zeit ist einfach reif für die drei Vinylbessesenen DJs High Ku, SLY und Zé Mateo; es gilt, ihren Kurs von der Sonne bestimmen zu lassen und die Zen-beeinflussten Geister auf Großes zu richten: „Racing With The Sun“. Ihr erstes richtiges Album als Chinese Man ist ein spektakuläres Werk, irgendwo zwischen HipHop, Elektro, Baile Funk, Afro Beat und Dub. Ein ganzes Jahr lang haben Chinese Man an der Produktion der Platte gesessen. In diesem Jahr haben sie den chinesischen Drachen gejagt – zum Klang der Stimme von Ella Jenkins und im Zuge akustischer Schlangenbeschwörung. Posaune, Orgel, Gitarre, Gamelan, Kontrabass, Percussion – sämtliche Instrumente wurden nur mit einem Ziel zusammengetragen: Einen bisher unentdeckten Sound zu kreieren. Und dieses Ziel haben Chinese Man ohne Zweifel erreicht. “Racing with the sun” erscheint Ende Januar im Vertrieb bei Groove Attack. Produziert und gemischt wurde das Album von Sodi, der schon bei Alben für Fela und Femi Kuti für den Sound verantwortlich war.

The band made up of High Ku, SLY and Zé Mateo was started in 2005 at the behest of their grand master, the renowned and mysterious Chinese Man,
founder and inseparable figurehead of the Chinese Man Records Label. Their music grew out of Hip-Hop, but far from staying stuck with its roots, the
monk’s inspiration remains open to all musical winds. The breaks of the dragon chaser are multifarious : they take in dub, afro-beat, baile funk or
traditional musics...Two volumes of Groove Sessions (compilations of the label’s maxi EP’s), an invitation from a car brand to fill the TV screens with
the track “I’ve got that Tune” and some hundred dates as DJ Set (High Ku & Zé Mateo - DJ Set 4 turntables)... was all it took to launch the adventure
of the Chinese Man’s disciples !
But for the chinese man, his disciples needed to spread the Zen mind with live shows too : he sent them to scour the dance halls of France to tone
up butts atrophied by prolonged abstinence from booty shake... the public showed up in force and the “The Groove Sessions Live” tour was a
resounding success ! To celebrate these two fine years, Chinese Man decided to put together the best moments of the crew’s 2009-2010 tour onto a
DVD. Since then, he has been watching it non-stop, snugly ensconced in his bamboo armchair with an opium pipe in his mouth...
Tireless warriors of sound, the first notes of their new album ‘Racing with the Sun’ will ring out in April 2011. With their mix of dusty Hip-Hop, Dub
and forgotten samples, their guests on this new opus include their faithful Californian MCs (Cyph4, Lush One, Plex Rock and Ex-i), a guild of
Indonesian rappers (Heru, M2MX and Kill the DJ...) who distill their flows while the new recruit Taïwan MC is in sparkling form and General Elektriks
tickles the ivories for the great delectation of the Chinese Man and his disciples ! For this year 2011, year of the Rabbit, High Ku, SLY and Zé Mateo
will once again be taking to the road with a new live show where turntables, machines, videos and MCs do battle in a decor 100% made in China !
Look out, 2011 promises to be a year of sinographic upheavals ! The race with the sun is on... the quest for Zen mind continues !
